Mata ni Pachedi:

The making of a Handpainted Mata ni Pachedi saree begins with preparing the fabric, which is washed to remove any starch or dirt. The artisan then starts drawing the design directly on the fabric using a bamboo stick, which acts like a pen. There is no tracing, stencil, or block. Every line and motif is drawn freehand with great skill and patience. The designs usually depict stories of goddesses, traditional symbols, and elements from nature.

Once the outlines are done, natural dyes made from leaves, flowers, and other organic sources are used to fill in the colors by hand. After painting, the saree is dried in the shade, and then boiled in water mixed with specific natural fixers to set the colors. Finally, the fabric is washed and dried again. The entire process can take 15-20 days or more, depending on the complexity, and every saree turns out unique - A beautiful result of time, tradition, and pure handwork.

Artisans practicing Mata ni Pachedi craft demonstrate a profound understanding of the symbology behind each motif, ensuring that every stroke reflects the cultural richness and devotion associated. They are not just creators; they are storytellers with brushes as their pens and fabric as their canvas. These artisans, often working in close-knit communities, contribute not only to the visual splendor of the sarees but also to the preservation of a cultural heritage that spans centuries.

Mata ni Pachedi Saree preserves centuries-old craftsmanship and fosters a profound connection to spirituality and tradition, making it a cherished treasure for those who appreciate artistry and cultural legacy.
