Bandhani

Artisans tie small portions of the fabric with thread, using techniques passed down through generations. These ties can vary in pattern and density, ranging from tiny dots to intricate geometric shapes.

The task of tying of motifs is predominantly carried out by the women artisans who manages this along with the rest of the household chores at their homes in the village. More interestingly, women can tie up to 700 knots in a single day. While women are busy tying knots, the men are actively engaged in the dyeing process which happens in more specialized workshops.

The tied fabric is immersed in vibrant dyes, with each tied portion resisting the dye to create the desired patterns. Our artisan uses natural dyes sourced from plants and flowers, resulting in rich and enduring colors. Once dyed, the fabric is carefully laid out to dry in the sun. This not only sets the colors but also enhances their vibrancy, giving the Dupatta its characteristic appeal. After drying, the tied threads are meticulously removed to reveal the intricate bandhani patterns underneath.
